My Unique Affiliate Marketing Journey
So I have finally come to accept that I have a business. I have a business that is called affiliate marketing. I am in the affiliate marketing business and I have an affiliate marketing business! Yes – I have to keep repeating this for it to stick in my brains!
I have tried for a very long time to get into business, to do business, to start a business… I’m very good at having ideas. And I think from as far back as I can remember, I’ve always had an idea to do something for myself and to make money.
At one point in the early 90s, I wanted to write and so I bought this course to learn to be a writer. I love buying things! That was at a time when the internet hadn’t really taken off, so that was like in the early 90s. So I bought this course. I can’t remember the name of the company… I had to send off, I think in the post, to get the package. And so I sent off this form from the newspaper, to learn to be a writer.
I was so excited when the books came. The books came, I think I must have done one of the exercises – and that was it… I think I still have a few of the books around right now.
Then later on, you know, I’ve always had this thing to write because I read a lot and I mainly read a lot of DIY, self help type books and the ode novel. At one point I used to work in the City and every lunchtime I would pop into Waterstones or Blackwell’s…bought some juicy novels back in those days. So when the internet was more commonplace and I had my own computer and let’s say that was around late 90s, early 2000s I sent off for another course about how to be a writer. That came, I looked at it, I was excited for the first few breaths. And that was that. I think I still have that program and I can still log on – more power to them for that. But again, I never, of course completed the course. And so that wish or dream to earn money by writing never got off to a start.
Anyway, fast forward to about 2018 and I’d been working on my own. I stopped working in corporate jobs, and I was working doing cover teaching; but although I was good, I knew I didn’t really want to be in a classroom on a long-term basis. So I knew that I didn’t really want to do that anymore. And the thoughts of having my own business returned…we’ll get to my latest entrepreneur journey in a bit.
